little theatres of the absurd series

Little Theatres of the Absurd is, in effect, a collection of absurdist dioramas that play on common phraseologies and everyday mundanities. With an obvious aesthetic reference to Richard Hamiltons' seminal 'What is it that makes today's homes so different, so appealing', these photomontages work with the same source material of nineteen fifties, American advertising as Hamilton and his fellow Pop artists, whilst adding a collection of white silhouetted characters engaged in their, somewhat quirky, everyday activities.

The context for these compositions is to be found in the accompanying caption that draws on absurdist reference points within the image, to create the subsequent visual pun - a device that follows in the footsteps of the work of Glen Baxter and Graham Rawle's 'Lost Consonants'.
